Courtney and Paul had a Colorado Ranch wedding at Hatchet Ranch just South of Pueblo.
This beautiful, rustic ranch is next door to their own personal 80-acre property. When they looked into holding their wedding at their own ranch, they quickly realized that the work and rental requirements were going to be a headache. They chose instead to get ready at home, and then have their wedding and reception at Hatchet Ranch. It suited both their desire to have a very casual event, as well as their love for the outdoors and animals.
I’m not going to lie. This was absolutely one of those weddings where I looked around and thought ‘where the heck do I hang this dress for photos!?’. There were so many people in the tiny house getting ready, that there just wasn’t room. I had to get creative – I thought hard about Courtney and Paul, who they were, what was important to them. This property of theirs where they live is so much a part of who they are, it only made sense to hang her gown there and show off her boots on the front porch.
Courtney and Paul have horses and dogs on the property – these two were so sweet!
I absolutely LOVED this sweet, simple, organic floral arrangement made by Mandy with MJM Floral designs. It was the perfect compliment to this rustic wedding.
Paul got ready in the barn at Hatchet Ranch, choosing a button down shirt instead of a full suit.
Courtney got her gown at Maci Marie Bridal – one of my favorite places to recommend for wedding gowns!
Hatchet Ranch in Pueblo has a fantastic bar in the barn, the perfect spot for the guys to hang out before the ceremony!
Courtney and Paul shared their first look on the property, with Courtney walking out the back deck to greet him where they pasture their horses.
One thing Courtney really wanted was photos with her horse.
This poor horse was so freaked out by the big white dress; so while we didn’t get to spend as much time with her as originally planned, we definitely learned a few lessons about horses and white dresses.
For these photos, Courtney and her friends had spent all morning corralling this horse to keep her near the house; she escaped back to the pasture more than once. Such a trickster!
I love how Courtney encouraged her wedding party to wear comfortable, flattering dresses in shades of pink and grey.
The guys all wore matching button-down shirts. Casual and relaxed for this beautiful outdoor wedding!
Mandy with MJM rocked it, again, with this incredible ceremony arch!
The interior of the barn was strung with colorful buntings in turquoise, yellow, and red. Tables were set with cactus, wood, and pieces of colorful glass.
At the end of the night, I grabbed Courtney and Paul for a quick photo with the stars. It was a warm, calm evening and clear as can be – this little escape from the party ended up being a beautiful way to finish the day. We thought they were pretty worn out after all of this, but I heard later that the party kicked back up again and went well into the evening. Such a beautiful, fun, and emotional day and I loved being a part of it. Congratulations Courtney & Paul!!!
